HOLDING UKRAINE IN OUR HEARTS! I know we're all heartbroken and angry at the unprovoked attack on the peaceful people of Ukraine. The scenes are horrific, but I take some comfort in the unity of the world against Putin and in the strong leadership of President Biden. NEWS: The 8th Congressional District (CD) Democratic Committee convention was held last Saturday, and nominated 20 people to serve on the DPVA Central Committee, including our own Peg Willingham. Thank you, Peg, for representing us!
The General Assembly is wrapping up its business. For the most part, the House GOP majority attempted to pass a lot of extreme, right-wing legislation that would undermine our public school system and repeal many of the popular reforms Democrats passed the last several years that addressed gun violence prevention, climate change, criminal justice, and worker rights. Fortunately, the Democratic majority in the Senate was able to block most of that legislation. Seeing exactly how the GOP would take Virginia backwards should make us all aware how important the 2023 General Assembly elections will be.
Lastly, Starbucks workers around the nation, and right here in Virginia, have been filing for unionization. This is part of a national movement towards improving worker rights through collective bargaining and unionizing. (Our FCCPC School Board had a preliminary informational discussion about collective bargaining this week, and the Arlington County firefighters have just announced a collective bargaining agreement.) If you'd like to show your support for these efforts, please visit one of the following Starbucks locations in our area that have filed for unionization, and order your drink under the name UNIONYES:
